Established by The GRD Trust in 2005, Dr. G.R. Damodaran College of Education, Coimbatore, is yet another memorial to Prof. G.R. Damodaran (1914-1986), one of the great educational visionaries and institution builders of our country. Over a period of four decades, totally dedicated to the cause of education, especially in the fields of Science, Engineering, Technology and Management, Prof. G.R. Damodaran made unparalleled contribution to educational development. Dr. G.R. Damodaran College of Education was launched by the Trust in the academic year 2005-2006.

Mission

Our ardent mission is to groom educators, equipped with up to date scientific knowledge and skills related to education, who will be creative, motivated, self-confident, self reliant and adept at modifying teaching strategies in tune with the changing scenario, without compromising on quality.

We shall strive to infuse in our student-teachers a humanitarian approach in their sincere efforts to mold and guide young minds and pave the way for the evolution of a new order in the realm of education.

We aspire with fervent commitment to impart the principles of Man-making Education and instill the values in the student teachers, which will promote exemplary endeavour.

Our Founder

The G.R.D. Trust was founded in Coimbatore in the year 1979 by Prof. G.R. Damodaran (1914-’86) to promote institutions and programmes of Education, Research and Extension service related to emerging scientific and professional areas. Dr. G.R. Damodaran, acclaimed as an educational visionary and institution builder par excellence, developed the PSG Group of institutions into nationally renowned centres of excellence in Arts, Humanities, Engineering, Applied Sciences. and Management. Over a period of four decades of dedicated endeavour, Dr. G.R. Damodaran held, with great distinction, numerous positions of leadership, covering a wide range of educational agencies and initiatives as listed below:

· as chairman of the Southern Regional Committee of the AICTE

· as member of AICTE and some of its boards

· as chairman of the Government of India High Power Committee on the Reorganization of Polytechnic Education (1969-’70)

· as Member of Parliament and Member of .the Legislative Council, Tamilnadu.

· as Vice –Chancellor of the Madras University

· As chairman and member of a large number of State level and National Committees related to several aspects and sectors of Education.
