Established by The GRD Trust in 2005, G.R. Damodaran College of Education, Coimbatore, is yet another memorial to Prof. G.R. Damodaran (1914 - 1986), one of the great educational visionaries and institution builders of our country, whose cherished dream was to start a College of Education. Over a period of four decades, totally dedicated to the cause of education especially in the fields of Science,

Engineering, Technology and Management, Prof. G.R. Damodaran made unparalleled contribution to educational development. Dr. G.R. Damodaran College of Education was launched by the Trust in the academic year  2005-2006.

The College is functioning in its new campus at Muthugoundanpudur (on the road connecting NH47 and Sulur) from the Academic year 2006-’07. The campus stretches over 5.4 acres of land in a serene and semi-rural location and has well designed buildings with spacious classrooms, library, laboratories, conference and seminar halls and sufficient space for other activities like physical education, recreation, meetings and other practical activities. Hostel facility has also been created for the benefit of students coming from the other parts of the state.
