| GRDCS
has the kind of infrastructure and facilities rarely
found in Colleges of its kind. This owes to the management’s
commitment to quality in all aspects that comprise the
educational setting and process. |
Buildings |
| The
College buildings, which are modern,
functional and impressive, consist of 4 major blocks-the
Main Block, the Management and Computer Science Block,
the Commerce and Social Work Block and the Library.
There are two smaller units – the PG Hostel block
and the Canteen block. |
The
main building, which is a 4 storeyed
one enclosing a large octangle, houses all the Undergraduate
Science programmes and the Post Graduate Biosciences
programmes besides the office of the Principal. The
classrooms are comfortably furnished, well lighted,
and well ventilated. The main building has an auditorium
and a basement Electronic Media Centre. |
The
Management and Computer Science Block
is a very modern 2 storeyed structure with well-planned
spaces. It has a basement Library and Computer Centre,
a very well appointed Seminar Hall with all modern AV
facilities, comfortable classrooms and staff rooms etc. |
The
Commerce and Social Work Block is similar
but has 3 storeys and a basement, which houses the Computer
Centre, Auditorium and Library. |
The
Library building, which is a large
structure with a single central pillar, provides large
unobstructed reading and referencing areas. The first
floor houses the Rukmini Damodaran Auditorium. |
There
are Two Hostel Blocks – one for
the Men’s Hostel and the other for the Women’s
Hostel. These 3 storeyed Hostel Blocks have all modern
amenities and accommodate 300 students each. Games facilities
include an open-air stadium and courts for Basket Ball
and Volley Ball. The huge Kailash Indoor Stadium is
built to national standards can host Basket ball and
Volley ball tournaments and has facilities for players.

The
built up area is about 1,75,000 sft. for teaching areas,
1,00,000 sft. for hostels, 20,000 sft. for library (to
be doubled) and 4,000 sft. for student amenities, which
are generous enough to accommodate foreseeable future
developments. A large Auditorium has been planned. |

| Laboratories |
All
the essential laboratories have been set up and provided
with modern and sophisticated equipments which meet
not only the needs of the undergraduate and postgraduate
laboratory course work but also the requirements of
research and development. |
The
School of Biotechnology has the Instrumentation,
Animal Tissue Culture, Plant Tissue Culture, Microbial
Culture, Fermentation and Chemistry Laboratories besides
the Autoclave and a BARC approved Radio Active section.
Some of the facilities available include: DNA sequencer,
UV Spectro-photometer, Refrigerated Microcentrifuge,
High speed Centrifuge, Ultrasonicator, PCR-machine,
Elisa Reader, Electroblotter, Deep freezer, (- 850 C)
Milli-Q filtration system, minicycler TM, Autoclave,
Microscopes, Incubators, Fermenter, Hybridization ovens,
Photographic facility, Gel Documentation unit, Bioreactor,
Biofuge etc. |
The
Microbiology Department is served by
the Environmental Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology,
Microbial Bio-Technology, Soil Microbiology and Medical
Microbiology Laboratories. It shares the advanced central
facilities of the Biotechnology laboratory, besides
having its own range of equipment like Autoclaves, Incubators,
Fermenters, Elisa Readers etc. |
The
Biochemistry Department has the Clinical
Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry and Molecular Biochemistry
Laboratories, besides a tissue culture laboratory, which
is the resource for a number of research and development
activities. It shares the advanced central instruments
facilities with the Biotechnology department for work
connected with Molecular and Cellular Biology. |
The
Visual and Mass Communication laboratory has
some of the state-of-the-art and sophisticated equipments
not often found even in the best commercial units. The
laboratory comprises the Multimedia, Sound Mixing, Non-linear
Editing and Studio sections having the following major
equipments capable of producing audio, video and print
media materials equal to the best in the industry. |
High
end professional cameras and lenses, Nondigital and
Digital video cameras, Betacam, DV cam, Non-Linear Editing
suite, Real Time, Tascam Mixer, Air Console, high capacity
computers with top of the line Software related to Multimedia,
Color Scanner, LCD Projectors, etc. The Multimedia lab
is equipped with high end systems and Multimedia Softwares
like Adobe Premiere, PageMaker, Corel Draw, Photoshop,
Premiere, Macromedia Director, SCALA, FrontPage 2000,
Web Publishing Studio, (Adobe Creative Suites Premium
1.0 Media - Photoshop CS, indesign CS, illustrator CS,
VersionCue, Golive CS, Acrobat Pro), Adobe After Effects
STD 6.0 Media, (Macromedia Studio MX 2004 for Windows
- Flash MX, Dreamweaver MX ). There is a complete range
of sound recording and broadcasting equipment and a
radio station is being operated. |

knowledge. The GRDCS Library is well stocked, well staffed
and above all is constantly updated by additions. To
meet the needs of teachers to keep abreast of developments
and for research referencing, over 215 journals &
periodicals are subscribed to in the different fields
of study of the College. |

knowledge. The GRDCS Library is well stocked, well staffed
and above all is constantly updated by additions. To
meet the needs of teachers to keep abreast of developments
and for research referencing, over 207 journals &
periodicals are subscribed to in the different fields
of study of the College. |
The
present stock of books and texts is 24,500. There is
a CD collection, which is growing. The Library has computerized
the indexing and search functions. Except for reference
books, the Library functions on the open access basis,
and works for extended hours on working days and is
open on Sundays and holidays. The Management, Computer
Sciences and Commerce Departments have their own libraries. |

Student
Hostels |
Roughly
about a third of the students are residing in the hostel
and two hostels - one for men and one for the women
as well as a smaller PG Hostel - with all conveniences
and amenities to house 350 men and 350 women students
have been provided in the campus. The hostels are served
by messes operating on the dividing system and providing
wholesome food. |
The
Hostels have common rooms, recreation halls, games room
and gym facilities. The Hostels are administered by
helpful, wise and strict Wardens and Dy Wardens; the
hostel rules are framed to ensure the discipline, well-being
and security of the hostel inmates. The hostels are
designed and run so as to provide rest, recreation and
relaxation, convenience and comfort, as well as the
ambience for undisturbed study. When application for
hostel accommodation exceed the capacity, the College
can arrange to provide accommodation in its off campus
hostel a few kilometers away or in other nearby private
hostels. |
| Canteen |
| The
College canteen offers considerable variety in snacks
and beverages. |
Bank |
An
extension counter of The Indian Bank is functioning
inside our campus on all working days. |
| Sports
and Games |
| The
vast campus has extensive playgrounds and outdoor and
indoor stadia and facilities for Basket ball, Cricket,
Tennis, Table Tennis, Chess, Carrom, Foot ball, Volley
ball and Athletics. Annual tournaments for the GRD Trophy
in Basket Ball and Volley ball are conducted by the
College. The College leads the State in Volley Ball
(Women) and Basket Ball (Men) and has a good Tennis
Team. |
