Dr.
G.R.Damodaran College of Science shall strive for relevance
and excellence in Education through: |
The
College is actively engaged in the spectrum of knowledge
related activities - Research, Consultancy, Extension,
Information Dissemination and outreach. These help to
make teaching learning more effective to provide updates
and perspectives of development in the several specializations,
to provide appreciation of the growing nature of knowledge
and the translation of knowledge to applications of
benefit. |
Research |
Research
at the College comprises M.Phil and Ph.D projects (in
all the departments) both by faculty and full-time and
part-time scholars as well as sponsored projects. The
areas of interest and relevant particulars are indicated
under the several departments. To promote the enhancement
of the scope of research, MOU’s have been entered
into with several leading institutions. |
Consultancy |
The
College engages in consultancy in all its fields of
study (Computer Science, Management, Biotechnology,
Biochemistry, Social Work, Personnel & Welfare,
Media Utilisation, Visual Communication, International
Business) so as to make available to industry / business
its sophisticated facilities of testing/ research/ library
and faculty expertise towards problem solving, goal-oriented
investigations, product/ process/ productivity/ development/
improvement etc. Specialized training programmes can
also be arranged. |
Consultancy
arrangements are flexible and can be tailor made on
mutual consultation. See under the departments. Contact/email

of Science. Involvement of students in consultancy projects
is a valuable professional training to them and helps
eventual employment. |
Information
Dissemination |
The
College believes that information dissemination/sharing
is vital to fertilize creativity and application and
organizes numerous seminars throughout the year. The
proceedings / Abstracts of many of these have been published
by the College. Some of the major seminars conducted
are indicated under the departments. The members of

A
number of magazines and journals are published by the
several departments. The college is associated in publishing
the GRD Trust’s major National Science monthly
magazine Wide Spectrum (Kalaikathir Publications, Coimbatore
641 037). Members of faculty publish/present scientific
papers/abstracts in Journals and Conferences from time
to time. |
IGNOU
– GYAN VANI, FM RADIO (COIMBATORE STATION) |
The
College as the Partner institution operates the Indra
Gandhi National Open University - sponsored GYAN VANI
FM Radio (Coimbatore) Station, through its installation
in the Communication laboratory. The College manages
all the activities – technical, content preparation
and administration – of the station within the
programme guidelines laid down by an advisory committee.
The Radio focuses on the spread of education, knowledge
and awareness at several levels to the surrounding community
in areas such as Science and Technology, Social Sciences,
Agriculture and Rural Development, Environment, Philosophy,
History, Civic affairs, Works and thoughts of leaders
of thought and art etc. The radio has a reach of about
150 km radius around Coimbatore and is one of the 17
such FM Radio Stations in the Country. |
Education
and Outreach |
Many
members of faculty of several departments and through
them many students are associated with extension projects
(Science and Technology, Transfer and utilization for
income generating activities for weaker sections / rural
people and Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Development)
and Social Science projects (Health and General Awareness,
Camps, Campaigns against AIDS, Pro human rights and
Women empowerment and other social service activities)
through the Centre for Research in Social Sciences and
Technology and Culture of the GRD Trust and under the
NSS and field work programme of the College. |
Extracurrucular
Activities |
The
College calendar is particularly reflex with a variety
of student activities – local and outstation seminars
and visits, special programmes, interaction, guest lectures,
professional and cultural meets and competitions, celebrations
and festivals, publications etc. These activities, which
develop students all round personality, leadership,
social skills and abilities & talents are taken
up under the various departmental associations, literary
societies like NSS, Youth Red Cross etc. |
Placement |
Placement
for training / internship / project work / employment
is given much importance at the College with a committee
of senior faculty to promote and coordinate the activity.
Placement efforts include preparation of outgoing student
brochures / profiles, CD ROMs, promotion of contacts
and collaborations, campus interviews and referrals
to companies and recruiting agencies etc. |
