Dr G R Damodaran College of Science, affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore and recognized by the University Grants Commission is a highly regarded co-educational institution offering Degree, Post Graduate, M.Phil and Ph.D programmes in Management, Computer Science, Travel and Tourism Management, Social Work, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Visual and Mass Communication, Commerce and International Business.

It was started in 1988 and within a span of decade and a half it had registered exceptional progress. In 2005, the student strength was 2100 (1350 UG Students and 750 PG Students) girls constituting 42% of the total and gained wide recognition including the accreditation with 5 STAR rating by the NAAC (NATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION COUNCIL) in Nov.2001.

The effectiveness of the College’s systems and procedures for quality focus monitoring and sustenance has been attested by certification under ISO 9001:2000. The College has been granted Autonomy by the UGC and Bharathiar University from 2004-05 which enables it to frame its own innovative and relevant curricula and evaluation systems. The degrees will be awarded by the Bharathiar Unviersity. Admission to all courses is open to students from all over India: A good proportion of the students are from other states.

There are couple of foreign students too. The College is distinguished by its excellent infrastructure-academic and residential, the quality of teaching and professional preparation and its unmatched promotion of all ranks in good numbers and gaining preferential recognition for placement in leading organizations. They have opportunities for simultaneously acquiring additional skills / qualifications through the programmes of the GRD Institute of Career Development Studies and the IGNOU Study Centres at the campus which cover a wide range.

College Location

The College is situated in Coimbatore city on the National Highway NH-47, not far from the city center it is close to the Airport and is well served by transport facilities. Coimbatore has perhaps the best climate of any city in South, apart from Bangalore. It is a modern industrial city and enjoys excellent transport linkages – air, rail and road, with the rest of the state and with the rest of India.
