The School
started in 1989 offers the 3 year BSW, the 2 year MSW programmes,
M.Phil, and Ph.D. programmes with excellent field work components and
professional exposures, enriched by the School’s active
research, project activities and extension and outreach programmes.
The School also offers the 1 year PG Diploma Programmes in Woman &
Child Development, the PG Diploma in NGO Management and the PG
Diploma in Guidance and Counselling. All these diploma courses are
offered by the college

The MSW Programme
|
|
The 4 semester
MSW programme has subjects of study and other curricular components
framed by the College under autonomous status to offer the students a
professional practice oriented perspective of the subject area built
upon the foundation of understanding of the underlying philosophical,
legal, sociological and psychological concepts. It comprises 15
theory subjects, 4 fieldwork practicals and a project of
investigation and action plan formulation in the final semester.

Value Addition
|
|
The students
can earn additional credit by taking extra subjects if they so
desire. The Post Graduate Diplomas at the School are open to MSW
students on part-time basis.
|
|
Students have
access to the well equipped Computer lab and the Internet and the
Multimedia facilities of the College. Training in the basics of
computer applications is arranged as necessary.
|
|
The students
are encouraged and provided opportunities to become computer and
internet conversant, and to appreciate the potentials of the
informatics revolution for social emancipation, awareness generation
and development.
|

Student Achievement and Progression
|
|
Right from its
inception the School of Social Work has been maintaining the unique
distinction of bagging the first rank in the Bharathiar University
year after year.
|
|
Around 90
percent of the Alumni, many of whom are from other states have
settled down overseas especially in USA,
UK, Canada
and the Gulf countries. Many of them are also working in India
holding good positions.

Placement Cell
|
|
GRD SSW has a
very active placement cell. A placement brochure giving the
highlights, unique strengths and achievements of the School and the
students is brought out by the School every year and distributed
widely to enhance the placement opportunities.

Women and
Child Development, Child Labour, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work,
Community Development, Industrial Relations and Labour Welfare and
Reproductive Health.

Ms K
Nanthini has completed the Ph.D. thesis on “Reproductive Health
(S.C.)”.

Extension / Outreach
|
|
Apart from the
village adoption and other field work which form part of the course
work for students, the Department engages in considerable amount of
extension/outreach activities by way of participation of faculty (and
students in some cases) in the projects and campaigns, transfer of
technology, skill development and training, entrepreneurship
development, awareness generation and other health care and education
related activities of the GRD Trust’s Centre for Research in
