of Travel & Tourism Management |
The
department offers the one year Post Graduate Diploma
in Tourism Management (PGDTM) programme. Tourism
with its related services and associated trade
fall out has become a major industry, playing
a significant role in the economy of many countries.
Increasing cultural and living standards, globalization
of business and the shrinking world in general
have led to enormous increase in international
and domestic travel, for business, for pleasure
and recreation, for education and for the other
interactions and get togethers. |
Tourists
and other travelers in very large numbers required
a diverse range of services – information
on alternatives for travel modes and routes and
carriers, accommodation, destinations and attractions,
iteneraries, packages and budgets, seasons and
special events, concessions and the like. They
require ticketing and reservation services with
scope for flexibility and change and personalized
customer services, information and help with visa
and passport, immigration formalities, foreign
exchange and other regulations and requirements.
The travel service business ranges from individual
operators to small, middle and large agencies
and multi national, multifacility organizations,
which are all networked in various degrees among
themselves and with other components of the travel
and tourism sector due to the phenomenal advancement
in the communication and IT enabled services areas. |
The
course is meant for the graduates desiring to
make a career in travel and tourism customer services
either in agencies or on their own, or to work
as managers in marketing, development and research
in large corporates in this field. |
The
course will comprise subjects of study with associated
practical work, mini projects, seminars and a
dissertation/internship report. |
