THE MISSION OF A VISIONARY

Established by The GRD Trust, in the year 2005, the Dr. G.R. DAMODARAN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION has emerged as yet another memorial to Prof. G.R. Damodaran (1914 - 1986), one of the great Educational visionaries and Institution builders of our Country. Over a period of four decades, totally dedicated to the cause of Education especially in the fields of Science, Engineering, Technology and Management, Prof. G.R. Damodaran made unparalleled contributions to Educational development both quantitative and qualitative side by side with the nurturing of the PSG group of Institutions as one among the outstanding Centres of Excellence in the Country.

He made pioneering efforts for reorganising and developing Engineering and Management Education at the all India level, as the Chairman of several Committees and Boards constituted by the Government of India and, at the regional level, as Chairman of the Southern Regional Committee of the All India Council for Technical Education. During his Tenure of Membership of the Lok Sabha and the Tamilnadu Legislative Council spanning over two decades and during his Vice-Chancellorship of the Composite University of Madras, Prof. G.R. Damodaran served the cause of Educational Development at all levels with rare dedication, commitment and outstanding creativity.

The Dr.G.R.DAMODARAN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION has emerged as yet another memorial for Prof. G.R.DAMODARAN (1914-1986), one of the greatest educational visionaries and Institution builders of our Country. The Institution caters to the immediate needs of the Society by imparting quality training to the Student Teachers besides inculcating in them, the traits of Commitment, Devotion and a Passion for Teaching.

THE LEGACY

THE GRD TRUST was founded with the objective of Developing Education and Knowledge – related Services of a High Caliber and Social relevance through Institutions of Higher Education and Research. The Institution also focuses on career Preparation in emerging areas, the promotion of programmes of Extension, Technology Transfer and Outreach, directed towards Community Development.

Dr.G.R.DAMODARAN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, like all the other Institutions of the GRD GROUP, shares the legacy of the flagship Institutions of the Trust, Dr.G.R.DAMODARAN COLLEGE OF SCIENCE, (Autonomous), Re-accredited at the ‘A’ GRADE level by the NAAC, granted AUTONOMY by the UGC and the Bharathiar University. It has gained reputation and recognition as a Centre of Excellence.

THE CAMPUS AND THE FACILITIES

Dr.G.R.DAMODARAN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION is located in calm and serene campus at Muthugoundanpudur situated 1.9 kms off the (Six Lane) NH-47, Avinashi Road. Outstanding Laboratories, Library and Computer facilities have been set up and are being continually upgraded. Separate Hostel facilities with all the amenities are available for the Men and the Women. The Hostel Mess runs on the Dividing System. Good discipline and a sense of purpose prevails in the Campus and the Students are afforded adequate opportunities to participate in development Oriented activities.

The B.Ed. Degree Course is led by a highly qualified and experienced Principal along with his team of well trained TNTEU approved (PG., M.Ed., M.Phil., and Ph.D.) Faculty Members who are committed to the all round Development of the students and the Institution.

The Outstanding laboratory facilities and the Faculty expertise of the Dr.G.R.DAMODARAN COLLEGE OF SCIENCE, (Autonomous) in its Departments of Bio-Sciences, Computer Science and Visual & Mass Communication are made available to the Dr.G.R.DAMODARAN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION to meet any inputs of specialized laboratory and academic needs.

THE TWO YEAR B.Ed. DEGREE (Semester pattern) COURSE ADMISSION

Admission to the Two Year B.Ed. Degree Course is made on the basis of the Marks obtained in their basic degree Course followed by an interview with the Principal. The Student Teachers are expected to read the instructions carefully and apply with Seriousness and Commitment to derive the maximum benefit for themselves as well as for bringing about Excellence.

ELIGIBILITY

Candidates who seek admission for the Two Year B.Ed. Degree Course should have passed the Bachelor’s Degree Examination.

  • 2. Post graduation is necessary for admission to the disciplines – viz., Economics and Commerce
  • 3. The Students are requested to check the norms prescribed by the TNTEU for admission to the two year B.Ed. Degree Course in their own interest. Further, the College shall not be held responsible if the TNTEU rejects the Student’s admission on grounds of Ineligibility.

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

The Student Teachers can write the exams either in English or in Tamil as per the norms of the University. Hence, classes are conducted in a bilingual mode as far as the theory papers are concerned.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICANTS

  • 1. The following enclosures should be attached along with the application forms:
    • i) A self – addressed postcard, for acknowledgement
    • ii) Xerox copies of the Mark Sheets of the SSLC, +2 and of all the individual Semesters and each appearance of the Examination both at the UG and PG levels.
    • iii) Copy of the Degree or Provisional Certificate / Course Completion Certificate from the Principal of the College or the Institution last studied.
    • iv) Copy of the Community Certificate and an attested Aadhar Card.
  • 2. Shortlisted Candidates called for the Interview, should produce the Original Certificates and their Mark Sheets for Verification.
    • 3. a) If Provisionally Selected, the Candidates should remit the fee immediately and submit their Original Certificates, Mark Sheets, T.C., Conduct Certificate and the Degree/Provisional Certificates. Merely attending the interview does not confer any right of admission, technically.
    • Candidates are advised to make sufficient number of copies of their Original Certificates, before submitting them at the time of admission. The Original Certificates received by the College for the purpose of admission will not be returned to the students until their completion of the Two Year B.Ed. Degree Course.
  • 4. The Candidates should furnish all the required Certificates within the prescribed date as mentioned by the TNTEU so as to confirm their admission and the eligibility for the B.Ed. Course. If not, the applicant will have to leave, foregoing the amounts paid by them at the office.
  • 5. Fee and advances once remitted will not be refunded on any account, if a student leaves whether for personal reasons or due to the invalidity of the admissions under Clauses 4, 7 or 8.
  • 6. Classes usually commence during the Month of August.
  • 7. Admissions are subject to the approval of the TNTEU. The College follows the rules and regulations of the TNTEU regarding the admission of students to the Two Year B.Ed. Course. The applicants may refer to the salient features of the latest regulations from the TNTEU website in their own interest. The College will not be responsible for any hardships caused by the changes introduced in the regulations concerning admissions by the TNTEU or due to any validity, ineligibility or discrepancy in the admissions, discovered by the University.
  • 8. Students are admitted on the expectation, that they will strictly abide by the rules and regulations of the College as mentioned in the College Calendar and meticulously follow the instructions issued by the authorities from time to time. The College insists on a high level of attendance, diligence in Course Work, Good Behavior and Conduct in the Campus and outside. Students who fall short of these expectations may be asked to leave and will not be eligible for any refunds.
