R. Damodaran College of Science, started in the year 1995-96, is offering the 3 year B. Sc. Microbiology, 2 year M.Sc Microbiology, M.Phil (Full \u2013 time and Part \u2013 time) and Ph.D. (Full \u2013 time and Part \u2013 time) programmes. The backbone of the department is the intellectual rigor provided by a strong team of faculty members and students coming from all across the world. The department has a strong base in Microbial technology and the main focus of the courses offered is on Genetics, Molecular Biology, Industrial Microbiology, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Genetic Engineering, Environmental Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Nanotechnology, Research Methodology and other areas allied to biological sciences. Considerable number of research papers is published every year in the journals of national and international repute.<\/p>\n<p>The alumni of the Department of Microbiology, Dr. GRDCS occupy positions of great responsibility in different institutions in India and abroad. Many of our students and have become researchers in the institutions of eminence within India and abroad. The faculty has been successful in mobilizing highly competitive research and extension project grants from the national funding agencies like DST, DBT, UGC, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, TNSCST etc. A large number of eminent scientists visit the department every year and deliver lectures. Department of Microbiology regularly organizes national level seminars, conferences and workshops to update the students about the recent developments in the field of Microbiology and related sciences.<\/p>\n<h4>Programmes<\/h4>\n<h6>B.Sc.
