M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes were instituted in 2004-05. The School also runs short term programmes (such as Certificate Courses in Photography and Printing (Offset); PG Diploma in Public Relations and undertakes production of promotion and educational audio, video and print materials for selected clients.<\/p>\n\n --><\/p>\n<h4>B.Sc. Visual Communication(3 Year UG Programme)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<aside class=\"col-md-6\">\n<p>The B.Sc. Visual Communication programme equips students with creative, technical, and conceptual skills required for the dynamic media and creative industries. The course blends theory with practical training in visual storytelling, design, photography, filmmaking, animation, and digital media.<\/p>\n<p>Students gain hands-on experience through studio work, media production labs, internships, and live projects. The importance of media, in a progressive country like India has been widely recognised in the field of education as there are ample opportunities in the field of advertising, journalism, electronic media (Radio and TV) and more recently the new media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>The scope of communication is wide and the college offers a three year undergraduate programme in Visual communication and a two year Post graduate programme in Journalism and Mass communication. M.Phil and Ph.d., programmes (Full-time and part-time). The curricula has been developed to meet the demands of the media industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>The learning objectives are designed to enable the students to prepare themselves to become professionals in the media. As the stream needs on the field experience, the curricula stresses on practical approaches such as compulsory internship programmes. These provide the \u201cindustry connect\u201d and the hands on experience for an holistic outcome. Regular Updation of the curricula with industry representatives during the board of studies meetings held annually helps in the changes to be met periodically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Creating an environment for students to explore, understand and excel is the priority of the Department of visual communication. The department provides excellent infrastructure facilities for students such as an Audio - visual lab for pre and post production functions. The labs are equipped with digital audio mixer, desktop systems with updated software to meet the demands of the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<h4>Facilities<\/h4>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>A 200 seat AC preview theatre for the screening of movies is a part of the initiative to encourage students to produce films. Films directed by students are often screened and discussed. All language films are screened on a weekly basis for practically understanding of the theoretical concepts on film making. A studio for Photography equipped with different types of lens and camera are provided. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>As the course deals with a combination of media studies, web and animation, film making, audio and video production,studios are required. There is an exclusive audiovisualstudio, a photography studio and a 200 seater preview theatre with the state of the art facilities for enhanced learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>There are three equipped labs with a capacity to accommodate 50 students each. There are around 100 computers and 45 Apple Mac systems with 5 work stations with Corel Graphics suite, 2022 and Premier pro, FCP, Avid,3D MAX, Da Vinci Resolvesoftware for the students to meet industry standards and attain professionalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Social media has a strong influence on learning.  Whatsapp groups are created for the students with the tutors and teachers being a part of the interactive communication process. The college strongly believes in creating a technology driven environment. Hence Wi-fi connectivity has been provided for the students. For students pursuing research programs, inflibnet is recommended so as to have access to online journals and books.\nA well equipped photography studio equipped with high end cameras (5D and Mark IV, GoPro) and lenses (70-200\/ F2.8, Fish eye lens) are provided for the students to get hands on experience in photography. The students are encouraged to create an album and develop a portfolio for a particular theme of their choice (food, model, product, architecture and wildlife) through outdoor trips.\nOn the whole the School of Communication at Dr. G R Damodaran College of Science, provides a very conducive environment for the VISCOM aspirants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"row\">\n\n\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n\n\n<p>The students are encouraged to create an album and develop a  portfolio for a particular theme of their choice ( food, model, product, architecture and wildlife) through outdoor trips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>There are two equipped labs with a capacity to accommodate 50 students each. The photography laboratory has high end professional cameras and lenses and the multi media laboratory, the best computers and top of the line software that enable work of contemporary professional standard.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>The IGNOU sponsored GYAN VANI FM Radio Station operates from department and offers exposure to design and operation of the broadcast media.
